Tree member of the Tilia genus, itself member of the Malvaceae family, of quick growth, able to reach 30 or 40 m high, with a sturdy trunk, numerous ramifications, usually heart-shaped leaves, tiny fruits attached to a ribbon-like, greenish-yellow bract, 5-petaled 5-sepaled flowers, both the flower and the bract being used in medicinal tea.
